DANFORTH QUALITY HELPS ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR RESIDENTS OF HASKELL STOVROFF APARTMENTS
The Olmsted Center for the Visually Impaired in Buffalo, NY assists visually impaired adults and children, as well as those with other physical challenges to live optimally without barriers. The agency recently opened the Haskell Stovroff Apartments in Cheektowaga, NY, their fifth housing project for visually impaired and physically challenged tenants.
Danforth took great pride in being part of the apartment project. Our work included:
· Installation of 24 gas heating furnaces with electric cooling in each apartment
· One rooftop unit
· Two make up air units
· Three indoor air-handling units.
· All the ductwork, exhaust fans and range hoods were done with the help of our piping and sheetmetal services.
Buffalo Zoo Rainforest
Can you spot the heating ductwork in these photos? Look closer at the rocks and trees? Still don’t see them?
John W. Danforth Company provided the Heating and Ventilating solutions for the brand new South American Rainforest Exhibit at the Buffalo Zoo. The main exhibit is supplied air through fiberglass reinforced duct, up to 60 inches in diameter. FRP duct is run underground, into the exhibit and then was incorporated as rocks and trees for an almost unnoticeable duct installation.
The exhibit, which opened September 9, 2008, contains an HVAC system that includes an 80,000 cfm air handling unit for the main exhibit, two heat recovery units for animal holding areas, and one roof top air handling unit for the theatre and gift shop. Air handling units are all supplied heat from the new boilers installed by Danforth in the mechanical room. Exhaust fans were also provided to fully ventilate the entire facility.
Danforth services included sheet metal, piping, balancing, controls, air testing and commissioning of system. The entire HVAC project was $2.2 million.
Kenfield Apartments
Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority - Kenfield Apartments
Due to constant repairs and lack of efficiency in their heating and domestic water systems, Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority was convinced it was time for an update at their Kenfield Apartments. The John W. Danforth Company was asked to decentralize the steam plant for the 77-building complex. Danforth engineered and fabricated fifty-five 9-ft.-by-12-ft. mechanical rooms that were installed in new pre-cast buildings (“doghouses”), which were attached to the existing housing buildings. The state-of-the-art CADD system allowed these structures to be fabricated in house and transported to the site where a crane was used to set the completely fabricated mechanical rooms in the pre-cast addition. For the remaining twenty-two existing mechanical rooms Danforth’s team of piping specialists were motivated to overcome the challenge of fitting new equipment into the existing mechanical rooms. In the apartments over 3,000 radiators were modified to be compatible with the new hot water heating systems.
NFTA-LRRT Damper Rehabilitation
NFTA-LRRT Damper Rehabilitation
The John W. Danforth Company was the General Mechanical Contractor for Sheet Metal and HVAC services required to replace the tunnel ventilation dampers and flexible duct fan connections at the Delavan and LaSalle Stations in Buffalo, New York. This work was completed in the spring of 2005 and extended over a one-year period. Danforth coordinated field installation activities with the NFTA and our Electrical and Concrete subcontractors. Temporary Sheet Metal barricade walls with sliding access panels were constructed by our Sheet Metal specialists to isolate the work area from the Rapid Transit Trackbed.
